Clinical Presentation of Neuroblastoma

چکیده
Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children, accounting for 7% to 8% of all childhood cancers. The prevalence is about 1 case per 7,000 live births. This incidence is fairly uniform throughout the world, at least for industrialized nations. Neuro‐ blastoma is slightly more common in boys than in girls, with a male-to-female sex ratio of 1.1 to 1 in most large studies [1]. While it accounts for 7% of all childhood malignancies, neuro‐ blastoma accounts for 10% of childhood cancer mortality. Neuroblastoma is a pediatric neoplasm that is the most common cancer diagnosed during infancy. POG and CCG institu‐ tions from 1986 to 2001 showed a median age at diagnosis of about 19 months. In this cohort, 36% were infants, 89% were younger than 5 years, and 98% were diagnosed by 10 years of age. The distribution of cases by age shows that this is a disease of infancy and early childhood, with the highest number of cases diagnosed in the first month of life [2].

متن کاملMolecular Markers in Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma, one of the common malignant childhood tumors, arises from neuroblast cells derived from theneural crest and destined for the adrenal medulla and the sympathetic nervous system and shows remarkable biologicalheterogeneity, resulting in favorable or unfavorable outcomes. Some tumors make rapid progress with a fataloutcome. In other instances, the tumors regress spontaneously in inf...

متن کاملCongenital neuroblastoma presented with cholestasis and huge hepatomegaly
This case report is about a 28-day-old neonate that had abdominal distention and massive hepatomegaly since 15th days of birth. First, he was normal, and he had not any sign and symptom of sepsis. At admission, he was about twelve days, he had a rapid progressive presentation of sepsis and unfortunately, he passed away. His liver biopsies manifested the neuroblastoma.
متن کاملGlutathione S-transferase in bone marrow metastases of disseminated neuroblastoma.
Antisera to each of the three main cytosolic forms of glutathione S-transferase (GST; alpha, mu, and pi) has been used to characterise GST expression by metastatic neuroblastoma in bone marrow trephine biopsies taken from 15 patients at presentation and from five of this group at relapse. There was no correlation between expression of extra-nuclear alpha or mu GST and outcome, and no consistent...
متن کاملFeasibility of high-dose iodine-131-metaiodobenzylguanidine therapy for high-risk neuroblastoma preceding myeloablative chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: a study protocol
Objective(s): High-risk neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer with poorprognosis despite modern multimodality therapy. Internal radiotherapy using131I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) is effective for treating the disease even if it isresistant to chemotherapy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacyof 131I-MIBG radiotherapy combined with myeloablative high-dose chemotherapyand...
